"Statistice I in the 2nd Quarter of the 21st Century", AMTNJ Newsletter Source Web Page

Hello,

This is not polished, grant-funded, free resource material.
This is raw and working, day-by-day, written because it was needed, free material. It is used AT THIS MOMENT-- THIS SEMESTER -- and offered here because I choose to share what I have found necessary for teaching 2 sections of Statistics I, fully internet, at the county college level.
Feel free to "steal" and edit anything you wish without citing a source except if you publish it for profit.
Reach it on the net through either of the links at the upper right.
      asquared at MCC
Please, if you find an error, pink-box me a message through my office web page, linked at the left.
This page, pdf, contains
  • "duplicates" of the web pages which outline the two parts of a semester-end project.
  • a for-student-use spread sheet of Edison, NJ, real estate samples:
The primary source for this document is:     The New Jersey MOD IV Historical Database, mod_iv_year: 2024 by Mr. Marc Pfeiffer & Lucas Marxen
          found at: https://policylab.rutgers.edu/publication/introducing-the-new-jersey-mod-iv-historical-database/
There are 29 CONDO samples, n=35 for each.
CONDO SAMPLES include: sale price, sale assessment, improvement value, net taxable value, year constructed, years old in 2024, but not acreage.
There are 23 SINGLE FAMILY HOME samples, n=35 for each.
SINGLE FAMILY HOMES include all of the above and acreage.
  • a for-student-use sample answer pdf file of Part I of the project
  • a for-student-use spread sheet as an answer to Part I of the project
  • a for-teacher-use spread sheet to facilitate grading of the project
  • links to the entire semester's worth of statistics resources organized through the department's course outline and linked through the 4 buttons at the upper left of each page.
The links from left to right are:
"A Semester of Stat I presented in 2 Hours, TI calculator files, Statistics on Video links, course outline
There are also links at the bottom of this file. Hope you find something useful, A2

Stat Project, Part I
Hi,
As discussed on Monday, the course outline says you are to "collect data, ... " asquared at MCC
You will be using material from:   The New Jersey MOD IV Historical Database, mod_iv_year: 2024 by Mr. Marc Pfeiffer & Lucas Marxen.
Part I of the project, 1-Variavle Statistics Summary, & Confidence Interval, is today's graded work.
Part II of the project, a Hypothesis Test, USES WORK REQUIRED TODAY and will be graded and TURNED IN ON WEDNESDAY, 4/30/25..

Go with confidence.   Stay safe, A2

You Get to Choose
  1. THE TOPIC on which you write the 1-VARIABLE ANALYSIS and CONFIDENCE INTERVAL
  2. which to study -- CONDO or SINGLE FAMILY`
  3. what item to study -- sale price, sale assessment, land value, etc.
  4. which sample to choose -- all data points from single.sample.01.no: 1 to single.sample.01.no: 35, or
    condo.sample.01.no:1 to condo.sample.01.no: 35 for
ONE of the samples: condo.sample.01 through condo.sample.29 for CONDO or through single.sample.01 to single.sample.23 --- IT REALLY DOES NOT MATTER.
  5. alpha, level of confidence,
  6. CHOOSE WELL BECAUSE YOU WILL USE THIS CHOICE of sample and topic ON WEDNESDAY'S GRADED HYPOTHESIS TEST.
Required
  1. collect data (n=35) from Statistics Project Part I , and look in your Download folder.
  2. 1-variable statistical analysis
  3. an appropriate image or graph representing the sample
  4. a written description of what the sample reveals
  5. the name of your choice of sample in the title of your work.
  6. a written description of what the sample reveals
  7. submit the RENAMED AND ATTACH WORK by SUNDAY, NOON, 4/27/ 2025
  8. use a spreadsheet from a prior class or a web page as found on OMNI or your calculator.

Mon, 4/28, 9.4, 9.5:

Rare Events, the Sample, Decision and Conclusion, p-value,
Level of significance, hypothesis test examples, Read a "Brief Summary of A Hypothesis Test"

Wed, 4/30:

Run a hypothesis test like the one shown below,
You must:
  • Use the same population used on Friday with your 1-variable analysis.
  • If you did not submit Part I of the project, pink-box a message and request completed work and use that. Don't leave this till the last minute to complete.
No request by Wednesday night at 11:59 pm -- no Part I work, so now Part II credit.
  • Include the full CONDO or SINGLE FAMILY sample number in the title of your hypothesis report.
  • The work must be displayed and a conclusion drawn as shown on the right. You may use a p-value for a more powerful conclusion.
  • You decide the level of confidence and the alternate hypothesis
  • Name your pdf or Word or Excel document with the usual title and the extra piece at the end as in
        ###.First.Last.Sample.Number
  • Attach and email it to yellow@mathnstuff.com or green@mathnstuff.com BUT TO ONLY ONE MAILBOX!!!! OR IT WILL NOT BE GRADED AT ALL!!!!!!!
  • Submit your work by 11:59 pm,Thursday night, 5/1/2025.

Prices and Values are in Dollars.
