"Website" Report -- September 2107, by Agnes Azzolino I. amtnj.org is a not really a website. It is a blog. I was asked to be webmaster of a website, I am a blogger of a blog which is part blog and part website. A. Most newspaper websites are blogs because they can: have a lot of eye-catching space, have a general format (called a theme) which is standard for each day but is changed DAILY with text and pictures that are new almost each day. Blogs are for those who have a lot to say and may wish other to share in the conversation. II. No, the general look of the website can not easily be changed. A. The layout of the home page is set by the choice of the original web designer or team, and, in my opinion wastes a great deal of space on junky-sized graphics and has very little flexability. B. You can purchase or obtain a new theme and migrate the current site to the new theme, but, first you have to find a good theme. I would be willing to serve on a committee to find a good theme but not to make a selection by myself. III. The blog/website consists of 3 different things: A. event -- short announcement w/date on the right side of the home page and posts. 1. It automatically deletes itself when the end date is past. 2. It has very little room for information. 3. Events are automatically listed w/most recent date on the top of the list. B. page -- static, (think textbook) but permanent part of the website. 1. It cannot have a slider (that catchy moving picture in the center of the homepage that, when clicked, links to a post) to announce it. 2. It does not have the ability to add comments at the bottom. 3. It may be linked with a tab at the menu ribbon on the top of the page. 4. The width of the page may be changed by de-selecting events on the right. C. post -- active, if you desire, (think newspaper) and has the ability to have a blog for comments at the bottom and the ability to have a slider announcement on the home page to grab attention. 1. Posts usually have shorter duration, but may be permanent but without the slider. 2. Mick Nuspl is writing his own history slider posts in addition to his Tiny Treasures. 3. Posts can not be linked to the menu ribbon at the top of the page. IV. At the present time, one page exists that is password-protected. More may be created as desired. A. It is a page called DIRECTORY and this is how you get there: 1. Go to the menu ribbon at the top of the home page. 2. Go the the tab that says ABOUT US. 3. Go to the bottom tab that says DIRECTORY and click on the tab. 4. In the appropriate space, type the message: ****************************** 5. The post may also be reached directly by going to: http://amtnj.org/about-us/directory/ V. At the present time, three posts exist that permit comments to be made at the bottom of the post. A. The post, connected by a slider, found at: http://amtnj.org/your-input-is-needed/ announces that amtnj.org is now a blog and asks for input. B. A second post which takes comments is not commented by a slider and is being used by Mick Nuspl for reasarch. C. A third post way created by me for Tom Walsh in case he wished input on table and advertisement prices before the September meeting. VI. Questions A. Do you wish a gratis post with slider to be created to thank the sponsors of the two-day meeting? B. Do you wish a page to be created which would advertise contact information for sponsors and/or vendors charging a fee, or not, for each? C. Do have any topic you wish to discuss on the website? D. Do you wish to have a pages dedicated to: 1. special ed? 2. research? 3. algebra? 4. precalc? 5. statistics? 6. anything else? E. Do you wish two-day speakers to have their work linked from amtnj.org as has been done in the past. 1. papers in pdf form? 2. links to their websites? 3. if you choose any of the above, should it be password protected? F. Any other questions?
