Grading & Cheating Policy

    The burden of proof of both long and short term mastery of skills or concepts lies with the students. Mastery is demonstrated by significant achievement on tests, exams, and the question books.

    Students having disabilities who choose to disclose the disability must obtain official MCC recognition of the disability in order for the teacher to make any accommodation.

    If a test, assignment, or exam is not completed at the instructor-scheduled time, the grade of NG with the equivalent of ZERO is assigned. This grade may be replaced by another grade only by the instructor's permission and for extraordinary reasons and if the student has informed the instructor immediately in-person, through a phone conversation, or through a written message. Do NOT expect to be able to take a makeup test.

    If the instructor believes a student has cheated, copied, permitted another student to copy work, or participated in any unauthorized collaboration, the grade of CH with the equivalent value of TWO ZERO GRADES will be assigned. Grades other than the final exam are usually curved bv the instructor.

    The grade of
5= A,
usually better than one standard deviation above the mean, 5 points per weight of the item.
4.5= A- and B+ are 4.5 points per weight of the item.
4= B,
usually between .25 and 1 standard deviations above the mean, 4 points per weight of the item. Grades of 3.5= B-, B/C, C+ are worth 3.5 points per weight of the item.
3.5= B- and C+ are worth 3.5 times the weight of the item.
3= C,
usually within .25 standard deviations of the mean, signifies 3 points per weight of the item.
2.5= C- and D+ are worth 2.5 times the weight of the item.
2= D,
usually between .25 and I standard deviations below the mean, signifies 2 points per weight of the item.
    In this course a D is not a passing grade.
1.5= D- and F+ are worth 1.5 points per weight of the item.
1= F,
usually more than 1 standard deviation below the mean, signifies worth 1 point per weight of the
0= NG
or no grade is worth 0 points per weight of the item. It indicates the student has not taken the test or quiz or has not completed the task.
CH= CH
or cheating indicates the instructor believes the student has cheated on the item.
    The grade of CH is worth 0 points and the weight of the item is twice the original weight so THE TABLE LISTED BELOW CAN NOT BE USED to compute the final grade. The former weight of x is changed to 2x, or (2x/(100 + x))(100)% of the grade.

    The following weighted items will be used to determine the final grade for MAT127. No plus or minus grade will be assigned as a final grade. The average of the weighted grades is the final grade for the course.

    The Page Do Grades will assist a student in determining the grade for the course, based on grades received thusfar in the semester.
