Solving Quadratic and Rational inequalities. Text 2.7, PG. 142

Welcome to Precalc!

Old + New = Even More Powerful
Hi,
    Take the algebra II from high school and the precalc review
from last class and see how the math may be used to solve more advanced equations.
    Contact me through the pink box on www.mathnstuff.com/math/math.htm
or with the phone number on your class CANVAS home page.
    Stay safe, A2

2.7 - Linear Inequalities and Absolute Value Inequalities -- Solving Quadratic and Rational inequalities, pg. 142, Learning Objectives
	* Use interval notation.
	* Use properties of inequalities.
	* Solve inequalities in one variable algebraically.
	* Solve absolute value inequalities.

    If ax² + bx + c = 0 then x = , the roots are:  x = and x = .

1st: Enter a, b, and c.   The sign is included in the value of the constant.   x² + x + = 0

2nd: Use the a,b,, and c to compute the discriminanat.
      b² - 4ac
()² - 4 () ()

3rd: To determine the number and kind of root, , b² - 4ac .
discriminant is     number of roots     kind of roots
zero, b² - 4ac = 0 1 real (double)
positive, b² - 4ac > 0 2 real
negative, b² - 4ac < 0 2 complex

4th: Replace variables as required.
becomes - ± ()

        2
5th: Factor and reduce if possible.
6th: If the discriminant is negative, restate in terms of  i , (-1).
      If the discriminant is negative, the roots are complex,
and this page can not display the complex number. The output will be "NaN."
7th: Press for the root =
