IN MATH: 1. n. opposite; the number which when added to another number yields zero, a number whose addition undoes the first number's addition. EX. Adding its opposite undoes adding the number: to undo adding a number, add its opposite. 2. n. on a number line, the number which is the same distance from 0 but in the opposite side of 0.
