Students having disabilities who choose to disclose the disability must obtain official college recognition of the disability in order for the teacher to make any accommodation. Do NOT expect to be able to take a makeup test. If a test, assignment, or exam is not completed at the instructor-scheduled time, the grade of NG with the equivalent of ZERO (on a 0 to 100 scale) is assigned unless the instructor agrees to extrapolate the NG grade base on final exam performance. This grade may be replaced by the extrapolated grade only by the instructor and for extraordinary reasons. Should you miss a test or realize you are about to miss a test, inform the instructor immediately in-person, through a phone conversation, or through a written email or other message. You may use the prof's schedule page to send a message.     If the instructor believes a student has cheated, copied, permitted another student to copy work, or participated in any unauthorized collaboration, the grade of CH with the equivalent value of TWO ZERO GRADES will be assigned & the scale below is modified to include one additional grade. Grades other than the final exam may be curved by the instructor. The semester's work includes a final exam, tests, quizzes, and work on ALEKS. Each item has a specific weight or value. The average of the weighted grades determines the final grade for the course if a student has earned a 60% correct or better on the final exam. This page permits a student to determine "WHAT YOU NEED" in order to end the semester with a desired grade. EACH STUDENT IS REQUIRED TO TAKE THE FINAL EXAM and achieve 60% correct or better, even if a negative "needed" points is determined below. |
If the prof curves the test, the curve will likely be as follows.
| ||
| Grade | % correct | Definition |
| A | 100% | usually better than one standard deviation above the mean |
| A-, A/B, and B+ | 90% |   |
| B | 89% | usually between .25 and 1 standard deviations above the mean |
| B-, B/C, C+ | 80% |   |
| C | 79% | usually within .25 standard deviations of the mean |
| C-, C/D, and D+ | 70% |   |
| D | 69% | usually between .25 and 1 standard deviations below the mean |
| D- and F+ | 60% |   |
| F | 59% | usually more than 1 standard deviation below the mean |
| NG, | 0 | no grade |
| CH, | * | cheating |
* Indicates the instructor believes the student has cheated, copied, permitted another student to copy work, or participated in any unauthorized collaboration. The grade of CH with the equivalent value of TWO ZERO GRADES will be assigned. The grade of CH is worth 0 points and the weight of the item is twice the original weight so the table listed above can not be used to compute the final grade. The former weight of x, in this case x % of the grade, is changed to 2x, or (2x/(100 + x))(100)% of the grade.
