MATH GAMES FOR ADULT AND CHILD

BINGO

BINGO is a good game for children. When playing with adults, children feel big, and if a child is permitted to be the caller, he or she feels even bigger.

      Here are some suggestions.

  • Have a young, very inexperienced child be on a team with an adult. The adult can do all the work and perhaps explain the play: the child can supervise.

  • Play with pieces, markers and boards large enough for the child to handle.

  • If a drawn number board (B followed by the numbers 1 through 15, ...) is not available with your BINGO set, MAKE ONE! and encourage the child to watch it being filled and to help fill it.
An easy way to make a board is to use magic marker on the back of a piece of heavy wallpaper or window shade. List the numbers in columns headed B, I, N, G, O. List the numbers 1 through 15 under B, the numbers 16 through 30 under I, the numbers 31 through 45 under N, the numbers 46 through 60 under G and under O, list the numbers 61 through 75. Indicate drawn numbers with milk bottle tops, pennies or the drawn marker itself.

  • PERMIT THE CHILD TO BE A CALLER AND TO PLACE THE MARKERS ON THE DRAWN NUMBER BOARD!
Party Bingo

Bingo is even more fun when prizes are awarded. Small things which you might wish to discard are considered treasures by the young. Other things you might wish to discard make lovely booby prizes. Wrap the prizes in newspaper and toss them into a bag or bushel and store them in the basement or really out of the way. If you chance across a nice party favor while shopping, buy it, wrap it, and toss it in with the other prizes in the bushel. When party time arrives, the traditional bingo game may be played by both adults and children, and the prize or prizes easily awarded. If a person receives a really junky prize, the awarding of a second prize is definitely permitted.
